Round 21 Drops Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring Basketballs
From apparel to toys and even tech accessories, the iconic art of renowned artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring continues to leave its mark on the realms of art and design. Now, Round 21, a collaborative entity with a focus on sports, is contributing to this legacy with a new line of basketballs inspired by the artistic contributions of these two legends.
This collection comprises four official collector basketballs, with two paying tribute to each artist. The launch commences with the Jean-Michel Basquiat basketballs, “Lifeblood” and “Philistines.” The “Lifeblood” series features four iconic works by Basquiat, including “A Panel of Experts,” “Beat Bop 1,” “Made in Japan 1,” and an untitled piece (Skull, 1983). On the other hand, “Philistines” showcases officially licensed artwork that captures Basquiat’s distinctive raw and colorful style.
Additionally, the Keith Haring basketballs, “Tokyo Fabric” and “Are All Welcome,” offer their own artistic flair. “Tokyo Fabric” incorporates artwork from Haring’s 1988 Tokyo Fabric series, inspired by his experiences in Japan. Meanwhile, the “Are All Welcome” basketball displays Haring’s multicolored, faceless figures.
You can explore these unique pieces in the gallery above, with each basketball priced at $135 USD. They are currently available for purchase at Round 21 and the MoMA Design Store, allowing enthusiasts to infuse the artistic spirits of Basquiat and Haring into their sports and design collections.
