B.G. Of Cash Money Records Set to Be Released from Prison This Week
B.G., born Christopher Dorsey, is on the brink of freedom after spending more than a decade behind bars. As reported by The Jasmine Brand, the rapper is nearing his release during his “probationary period” and could return home as early as this week. B.G.’s legal troubles began in 2009 when he was arrested during a traffic stop in New Orleans, where authorities discovered three firearms, two of which were stolen.
In 2011, B.G. admitted guilt to two counts of firearm possession and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, leading to a 14-year federal prison sentence the following year, along with three years of federal supervised release. Despite his efforts to secure compassionate release during the COVID-19 pandemic, he faced three rejections from U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan, who found no significant negligence affecting the outcome of his motion.
Notably, Birdman, the founder of Cash Money Records, composed a letter to persuade the judge that B.G. had undergone rehabilitation during his prison term and could positively impact society upon his release. Birdman emphasized B.G.’s potential as both a generational artist and a platform to guide and inspire today’s young men with his experiences. Birdman expressed confidence that B.G. would give back to the community and leverage his journey to assist as many people as possible.
It’s worth mentioning that last year, amid false rumors about B.G.’s release, Gucci Mane extended a generous offer of a $1 million deal to sign with his label, 1017 Records. In a now-deleted tweet, Gucci Mane welcomed B.G. and expressed his admiration for him as both a man and an artist, inviting him to join 1017 Records.
B.G. emerged as one of the standout talents at Cash Money Records during the 1990s, contributing significantly to the label’s rise to prominence. His solo work and membership in the Hot Boys, which produced the platinum-certified album “Guerilla Warfare” in 1999, played pivotal roles in his career. Throughout his journey, he has released more than a dozen solo and collaborative albums, with his most recent being “225504” alongside Lil Boosie.
