Def Squad | El Nino
Way back in 1998 the Def Squad dropped El Nino, one of the most highly anticipated releases in quite some time. The Def Squad, which consists of Redman, Eric Sermon and Keith Murray, pretty much delivered one of the illest hip-hop albums (or CD’s) in a while.
I’m not sure what people weren’t sure about as far as the quality of the drop because you had three of the baddest MC’s all in one group dropping a double CD. Redman: all flames. Keith Murray: all flames. Eric Sermon: all flames with both lyrics and production, so I don’t know what people were wondering about. But you know people always have to second guess everything.
I will admit a couple of the tracks could have been a little bit tighter but for the most part the whole joint was crack. The tracks Check’n Me Out, Full Cooperation, Countdown and Rhymin’ With Biz (Biz Markie) stayed in heavy rotation. The videos stayed on BET and MTV and the real hip-hop heads were pleased with the release. It got some corny-ass reviews for some reason but I couldn’t see what they were complaining about. Like I said: Redman, Eric Sermon and Keith Murry bro. That’s the end of the conversation. I can promise this CD burns any of this weirdo skinny jeans bullshit these clowns make today.
But anyway, check it out below and decide for yourself. If you really know and love hip-hop you’ll see what I’m sayin’.
