“Fishtown” from OT the Real is another one of them gutter jawns you bang while your out there grindin’. A 110% certified street corner drug dealer anthem.
When I try to explain the type of music OT puts out to people that are searching for great hip-hop but, for some reason, haven’t heard of OT, the first thing I’ll tell them is: if you haven’t done any jail or prison time and/or haven’t been in the street like that, then you probably won’t know, or understand half of what he’s saying.
Sure you might recognize some of the slang words but most of the bars are from stories, situations, real life shit that you only know or see from being deadass in the mix. There’s no other explanation. You can’t fake the shit he spits. The wolves would have devoured him by now.
And in my honest opinion, that’s just fine with me. 99% of these “rappers” are like watching wrestling nowadays and are as fake as can be. As far as some disagreeing with the nonstop hustling & trappin’ & gunplay in the lyrics, well playboy, everything ain’t for everybody.
And OT, all of his shit that I’ve ever heard from years ago when he just broke out, till now, his music is as authentic and on point as “The Wire” was back in the day. The absolute motherfuckin’ truth. They just got everything right. Same with OT’s music. His shit is official like a referee’s whistle.
