Rapper Slowthai Charged With 2 Counts Of Rape In U.K.
UK rapper Slowthai, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, has been charged with rape, but he maintains his innocence. According to a report by The Guardian, Slowthai appeared in Oxfordshire Magistrates’ Court via a remote video stream on May 16 to address the two charges of rape brought against him. In response to the allegations, Slowthai cleared most of his Instagram account, leaving only one post where he asserts his belief that he will be exonerated soon.
In the post addressed to his 655,000 Instagram followers, Slowthai stated, “Regarding the allegations being reported about me, I categorically deny the charges. I am innocent and am confident my name will be cleared. Until then, I will devote my energy to ensuring a swift and just resolution to this matter.” He concluded by asking his supporters not to comment on the situation and to respect the privacy of his family during this challenging time.
The Guardian states that the 28-year-old rapper is facing charges following accusations of non-consensual oral and vaginal penetration of a woman during an incident in Oxford, England in September 2021. Slowthai’s next appearance will be in England’s Crown Court in June, although the exact date has not been disclosed.
This recent charge is not the first time Slowthai has been embroiled in controversy over the past year. In August 2022, he faced significant backlash for wearing a swastika on his shirt during the Osheaga Festival in Montreal, Quebec. Slowthai later apologized, explaining that his intention was to use the symbol to convey the word “destroy” above it.
