Wild Style Limited Edition 4K UHD Now Available
Wild Style is widely recognized as Hip-Hop’s first film, and the only early Hip-Hop movie to feature actual Hip-Hop practitioners portraying themselves opposed to actors.
Starring the Cold Crush Brothers, The Fantastic 5, Lady Pink, Fab 5 Freddy, Lee Quinones, and the late Patti Astor, the Charlie Ahearn directed film chronicles the exploits of Graffiti artist Zoro who struggles to keep his life as an anonymous Graf artist a secret.
The Wild Style film and soundtrack have become cult classics and staples in the culture.
Now here’ a little story that must be told…
In the early 1980s, New York City set the stage for a cultural revolution as filmmaker Charlie Ahearn and downtown artist Fred Brathwaite explored the South Bronx to capture a vibrant new underground movement. This scene, alive with graffiti artists, breakdancing b-boys, and the raw energy of two turntables and a microphone, would soon be immortalized in the iconic film Wild Style. For many viewers, it offered a first glimpse into the music, art, and lifestyle that became known as hip-hop.
Blending fiction with documentary realism, Wild Style follows graffiti artist Lee “Zoro” Quiñones as he strives for success on his own terms, with appearances by Fred “Fab 5 Freddy” Brathwaite, Sandra “Lady Pink” Fabara, and Patti Astor. The film also captures historic performances from hip-hop pioneers Grandmaster Flash, Busy Bee, The Fantastic Five, The Cold Crush Brothers, and The Rock Steady Crew. To create the soundtrack, Chris Stein of Blondie teamed up with Brathwaite to produce the breakbeats featured in the film—a decision that would inspire DJs, collectors, and crate diggers for decades.
Endlessly referenced, sampled, and debated, Wild Style remains the truest cinematic portrait of hip-hop’s early years and one of the most influential music films ever made. Arrow Films proudly presents this landmark work in a new 4K restoration, complete with hours of bonus features, rare interviews, and behind-the-scenes featurettes, making it essential viewing for fans of hip-hop culture and film history.
